In the recent years, the problem of nosocomial aka hospital infections has acquired a great importance.

The threat of these infections spreading grows owing to a long chain of factors, including the increasing number of hospitals, application of new types of medical instruments, apparatus, and appliances, introduction of numerous therapeutic and diagnostic interferences, large expansion in number of patients with naturally or artificially weakened immune system, etc.

It is estimated that up to 6 – 9 percent of all the hospital patients in the world acquire secondary infections from their stay.

The quality of sanitary-hygienic processing, sterilization and disinfection is regularly checked by the district and the municipal sanitary and epidemiological stations (SES) by the help of bacteriological tests.
